Welcome to Nebraska! The only time we've been to Nebraska before this trip was when we cut the corner going from South Dakota back to Wyoming just so we could say we'd been in the state. But this time we are actually spending the night!
We arrived in Omaha around noon and headed over to the National Park Service Midwest Regional Office down by the Missouri River. This also serves as the Lewis and Clark Headquarters Visitor Center as well as provides access to the Bob Kerry pedestrian bridge.
The Bob Kerry pedestrian bridge, or Bob, is a 3,000 foot bridge that crosses the Missouri River from Nebraska to Iowa (or Iowa to Nebraska, depending on which side you start from). There is a spot near the middle where the state lines are marked, so you can stand in both Nebraska and Iowa at the same time. The bridge connects to other greenways and walkways making it a good place for exercise. It also provides nice views of the river and city.
And you can't forget to search for Omar, the troll who lives under the bridge.
While you can walk the whole way across the bridge, we only went to the state line because we wanted to watch a film in the Lewis and Clark Visitor Center, so we needed to be back in time for it to start. We also had plans to visit the local botanical gardens (separate post coming next). We'd recommend checking it out if you're in the downtown Omaha area.
