We spent our afternoon in Omaha at the Lauritizen Gardens. The Lauritizen Gardens are part of the reciprocal network of gardens with the American Horticulture Society so we were able to use our AHS membership cards to cover our entrance fee. We did purchase tickets for the 50-minute tram tour that took us around the gardens to see the areas that were further out. There were two 10-minute stops where we could get off the tram for pictures and exploration. The gardens were having a Lego Dinosaur exhibit, so there were Lego dinosaurs on display throughout the conservatory and in other parts of the main building. We saw several families and small student groups that were enjoying searching for the different types of dinosaurs on display.
There were so many beautiful flowers and plants in bloom or about to bloom. We missed tulip season, but that was okay, we knew we were a bit late for it.
Here are some of the flowers and plants and trees that we liked.
I learned these purple flowers I had seen several other places were called Ornamental Onions.
These flowers are Manchurian Lilac. I wish you could smell how beautiful these were.
Peonies were everywhere!
It seems like every gardens we have visited have a model train set up. Lauritizen was no different.
And as a parting picture, we'll leave you with this peaceful setting to enjoy! #flowersmakemehappy!
Cindy,
ReplyDeleteThat Ornamental Onion is an Allium, called an ornamental onion because Allium includes leeks, garlic, shallots, scallions and onions. I love them, but since are zone has changed to a 9, they only grow up to an 8. Love the blog! See you when you get home.
