Fort Zachary Taylor State Park in Key West

When we planned our itinerary for Key West, we decided to visit Fort Zachary Taylor State Park on the afternoon we arrived while waiting for our hotel room to be ready.*

The state park was really busy with another line of vehicles waiting to get in. We had to go to overflow parking, but mostly because the area to park for the Fort was pretty small.

We did a self-guided tour which means we took a lot of pictures of the signage along with the buildings.  I am including some info shots about the Fort along with the regular pictures.

We went to Fort Jefferson the next day,  and I'm glad we did Fort Zachary Taylor first as it would have been a let-down after seeing Firt Jefferson.  We would also recommend trying to get to the state park for their Fort tour.

Key West is a cruise port; you can get a great view of the cruise ships from the top ofnthe Fort.

*We stayed at the Best Western Hibiscus which was located 2 blocks from the Southernmost Point and no more than a mile walk to the other end of Duval Street. We didn't take pictures because the room and hotel looked exactly like the photos on the website. It was a great location and a comfortable spacious room.
