Heading back south on A1A from the Indian River Lagoon Preserve State Park, we stopped at the Sebastian Inlet State Park which features the Sebastian Fishing Museum, and then down to America's 1st wildlife refuge overlooking Pelican Island.
The state park has a jetty for fishing and a small beach area.
While checking out the beach, we saw a man with a contraption that looked like a boogie board and handheld solid sail. We talked to him for a bit while he was getting set up and he explained what it was going to do - wing-surfing! So we stayed and watched for a while! It was fascinating!
The fishing museum is small but filled with information and fishing gear from the area. Here are some pictures. I know some of our friends who like fishing would enjoy this museum.
The Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1903. They have a drive you can do through part of the refuge and they offer tram tours on certain days. They also have a few trails including one that is a 3/4 mile round trip on a boardwalk that has planks listing all the national wildlife refuge and their establishment dates. It was cool to see St. Marks and St. Vincent as they are near home!
Between the three parks, we certainly had an active morning enjoying the natural habitat of the area. Next up, Jamaican lunch and treasure hunting...
