And we're off!

Happy trails, dear readers!  We are off on our adventure through Florida.  Because I am going to be posting our blog updates mobiley, I will break each day into several posts to capture each highlight individually.

We intend to stay off the interstates and turnpike as much as possible, so we started this journey taking the US highways down the western side of Florida's peninsula.  For those familiar with the area, that means 27/98/19.

There's a good rest stop on 27 just north of Perry, so we stopped there for a break.  Our 1st day will be the longest distance driving in a day, so it was important to get started on the right foot. That means staying hydrated and stretching our legs whenever we stopped.

Our second stop was Way Down the Suwannee River in Fanning Springs.  They have blocked off the old steps leading to the water's edge, but the ramp is easily accessible.  It was peaceful.

We recently installed the Merlin app on our phones, so we were able to listen for and identify a couple of birds. I like that the app will show you a picture of the bird so you can look around for it and know which bird you heard.

From Fanning Springs,  we continued south to the Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs State Park which will be the topic of our next post.  We had never been before and it was a real treat!
