A day on Mackinac Island

We had a beautiful day on Mackinac Island.  We took Shepler's Ferry from Mackinaw City at 8:30 AM and arrived in time to watch the island waking up!

There aren't motor vehicles on the island (expect emergency vehicles) so deliveries and transportation are done by horse and carriage, trailer, and bicycles.

There are so many fudge shops that in the downtown area, you can find fudge to sample about every block.  Here's the morning delivery of supplies for Joann's Fudge.  We came back later in the day to buy our fudge from Joann's.

We stopped at the Post Office.  Isn't it cute?  And a courthouse, police department, and public library.

We went to the Visitor's Center where you can pick up information about the island.  We also went to the Pink Pony at the Chippewa Hotel for lunch and sat out on the patio. It was a beautiful day.

And Mackinac Island #flowersmakemehappy!

We didn't walk down as far as the Grand Hotel but did get to see it on the way back to Mackinaw City.

There were some beautiful buildings like this one.

We also spent a while at Fort Mackinac, but we'll save that for the next post.

Have you been to Mackinac Island?  Did you get fudge?

  1. I don't like the fudge there - too sweet! But I do like the island. We stayed overnight at once of the resorts 20 years ago because Tim had won an award, so it was free. It's a unique place!
