Dodge City's Trail of Fame, and two sundials by a train depot

There is quite a lot to see and do in Dodge City, Kansas, especially if you're a fan of the wild west and/or the t.v. show Gunsmoke.  In fact, they have a Dodge City Trail of Fame that starts at the Visitor Center and takes you through several city blocks to look at statues, sidewalk placements, and plaques on the sides of buildings that recognize the people who played a significant role in the development of the city.  Here are a few significant ones.

In addition, there were murals and other pieces of art work displaying information about Dodge City and her history.

The historic Santa Fe Depot still serves as an Amtrak station in Dodge City.  But it also serves as a museum that includes information about train travel and traffic through the years but also preserved a hotel room from when the building was a Harvey Hotel.  A portion of the depot is also a theater (not for movies).

Outside the depot are two sundials - one for central time and one for mountain time.  These were visible from the trains so that railroad employees and passengers could know what time it was when they arrived at the station.

Right after I took these pictures of the sundial, a train started to come into town.

There's still more to come before it's time for use to get outta Dodge, so stay tuned!
