Round Island and Ft Pierce

Our 4th day started out a bit warmer than the day before, but that just meant we could leave our jackets in the car.

Our 1st stop down A1A south of Vero Beach was at the Round Island Riverside Park. I was in search of seeing manatee in the wild, so when I read this was the spot, I added it to the itinerary. The park has a nice playground and a boat ramp, but the highlight is the observation dock/boardwalk.

I got my wish in seeing some manatee in the wild, but couldn't get any good pictures.  There was a breeding session going on in the middle of the water, so we tried to give them some privacy!

We walked the nature path to the observation deck where we didn't see anything but we heard a few birds.

Next up was the Fort Pierce Inlet State Park that features a beach on the Atlantic where people were surfing.  This beach's historical significance is that it was the training site for US Navy Frogmen.

Ahead: Heathcote Gardens, Manatee Education Center, and the Citrus Museum!
