Iowa was one of the states that neither of us had been to. A few years ago, I made a statement that if I ever went to Iowa, I would go to Le Mars - the home of Blue Bunny ice cream. Le Mars has also been designated Ice Cream Capital of the World!
Le Mars is about 30 minutes northeast of Sioux City, so when we left from Jolly Time we went straight to the Wells Visitor Center and Ice Cream Parlor. (Wells is the company name for Blue Bunny).
Here are some pictures from outside the Visitor Center.
The Visitor Center has a nice museum with a lot of information and interactive displays - plenty of fun for the kids and grown-ups, too. The folks at the Jolly Time museum told us that they used the same curator that the Blue Bunny folks did, so we noticed a lot of similarity in the type of content.
Ever wonder how they came up with the name Blue Bunny? They had a contest! This photo has the story.
And of course we had to have ice cream. So many flavors to choose. I had to stick to my favorites: vanilla and butter pecan. DH got chocolate brownie. Let's just say that was lunch!
We really enjoyed our visit to the Ice Cream Visitor Center. If you're ever in northwestern Iowa, you should add it to your itinerary!
