Quartz Mountain State Park and Lodge

When planning our Middle States trip, I looked for a variety of places to stay.  One that stood out was the Quartz Mountain State Park Lodge in southwestern Oklahoma.  It's a beautiful lodge on Lake Altus-Lugert within Quartz Mountain State Park.

We arrived at the Lodge mid-afternoon, so we got checked in and situated in our lakeview room before having a late lunch / early dinner at the Lookout Kitchen, the on-site restaurant.  The following day was my 60th birthday and I was hoping they would be open for breakfast, but being pre-season, they are only open limited days and hours.  Our dinner was really good, and we had the whole restaurant to ourselves.

We walked around the Lodge looking at the art work which is part of the Oklahoma Arts Institute.  You can see some of it for yourself here.  There is an interactive kiosk in the lobby that lets you read about the artwork while visiting the Lodge.  It's the same information as at the above link.

The inside of the lodge was so beautiful.

We walked one of the trails from the Lodge.  The weather was iffy and windy, so we didn't want to stray too far.

We played ping pong in the community activity area by the swimming pool which was indoors but closed.  There is a coin laundry and a fitness room, too.

In the gift shop, they sold chocolates made in Oklahoma in the shape of the state of Oklahoma!  I saved the sticker for my Smash book but ate the souvenir chocolate later that evening.  It was also good!

Overnight there were some severe thunderstorms.  The power blinked out a few times but came back on nearly right away, but it took out the Lodge's internet service.  It was a bit eerie to watch the storm over the lake, especially being so close to the water's edge.

The next morning when we checked out, we found out that we were one of only three rooms that were occupied.  We had joked the night before that it felt like we had the whole lodge to ourselves; turns out we almost did!

While we didn't have time to explore the rest of the state park, it does look like there are plenty of things to do.  The website says it's located a few hours from Oklahoma City and a few hours from Dallas.  If we lived in the area, we would definitely return.
